PRIME MINISTER WILL NOT QUIT AS EXPECTED TODAY

Instead:  "How could I resign? I cannot resign," Samak said.

"I will stay on to protect democracy of this country. The whole world is watching us."

"I need to uphold the rule of law because we are not a barbaric country," the prime minister added.

Samak said he planned to hold a live talk on Radio Thailand to talk to people who plan to join the protests to ask them to have a second thought. He also said to support lenient measures of the military to deal with the protesters who seized the Government House, when he was speaking live on Radio Thailand this morning.

Samak urges the public not to join protests and that the Army soon would clear protesters from government house. He also asked the PAD leaders to surrender to defend themselves in court.

"I am going to stay in office, and protect democracy," he said.

"I am the captain of this boat (Thailand) and I must take all the people on the boat to the end of our voyage."

He will go on air again at 2 pm to talk about the current political situation after an emergency cabinet meeting.

airport hijackingThailand has made the list of the Top 10 Most Dangerous Places as compiled by theTelegraphnewspaper of London.

The latest edition of the list puts Thailand as the seventh most-dangerous spot for travellers behind Iraq, Afghanistan, Chechnya, South Africa, Somalia and Sudan. Thailand is said to be more dangerous than Colombia and Haiti at the moment.

It justifies the Thai spot on the list because of "major political demonstrations and a temporary state of emergency" at the two Bangkok airports.

It also cites the continuing demonstrations around Government House, the Cambodian-Thai fighting on the bordefr, and "civil unrest and frequent attacks" in the deep South.

The British "Foreign Office advises against all but essential travel to these areas," the newspaper said.
