Many people feel as if they order food from one of these online restaurants, that their food is going to spoil during shipping. It's natural to think that.

It's really not that different in the way restaurants or supermarkets order their food. You don't think they create the food themselves, do you? It has to be shipped to them. So it really doesn't make a difference if it's going to the supermarkets or a suburban household. It still has to get there fresh. So you want to make sure you pick an online restaurant that has a strong reputation.

For starters, most of these places like to use the United Parcel Service. That way you get more flexibility in your delivery options, and you also get the carrier who is most used to delivering food, so you can feel a little more relaxed about it.

Most of these online food sites have different ways of packaging different kind of food. It also really depends on the kind of restaurant they are as well. To give you an example, Home Bistro, which prepares gourmet meals, like to package their food in a lot of dry ice to lock in all the freshness. What's great is that they usually have a low turn around time as well. (Only 2-5 days)

But when you are talking about the other online restaurants, don't expect the same method of operation.

One example of this would be The Crab Place. It's an online site that specializes in fish and seafood. With them, they would much rather use Federal Express. What I lover about them, is that their turn around time is even better. You can expect delivery within 1-2 days. Also, being that most of the food is caught fresh, they use refrigerant instead of dry ice.

When it comes to gift baskets, the issue is a little different. Thankfully because the majority of the food doesn't have to be refrigerated, the turn around time, is a little longer, but at least you don't have the expensive shipping fees.

The good news is that with the insane amount of online gift basket companies around, the competition really forces them to handle shipping really well.
